This Life I Styled | One Room Challenge - The REVEAL!
Forty-two days. That’s it. I am so grateful to Better Homes and Gardens and the One Room Challenge for continuing to support creatives in the chaos that is the One Room Challenge, but when I think about what I do for a living as an Interior Designer and I think about what I just accomplished in six short weeks, I’m truly astonished by what came out of my brain and into fruition. A lonely little laundry room…. She got the job done, but she sure wasn’t cute. Me, I like cute. I like cute a lot. I consider myself a minimalist, well, a highly-functionalist (just made that word/words up) mixed with good taste if you will. But, I love texture. I love good design. And I LOVE things to work really well for a family. So, without further ado my friends, I am so grateful for the opportunity to share with you what I created for the Fall 2019 One Room Challenge.
As a quick reminder… This space is a required space to walk through to get from our upstairs to our downstairs, so we don’t have the luxury of being able to tuck our laundry to a corner and call it good. This space essentially needed to be able to serve as a utility room AND an entryway. I am so proud of how it turned out. I hope you enjoy.
For me… the wallpaper does everything. We put in a brand new stairwell. New handrail. All new paint, molding and flooring, but the wallpaper makes such a huge impact. I new that when I selected it, that it was going to change the space for the better, but I had no idea how much it would move me. Even when I walk to the top of the stairs and see it from above, I get an overwhelming since of pride for the impact that it’s made on our home. The sense of creativity that I know I’m instilling in my little boys everyday when they walk through this space brings me joy. A home should be an expression of oneself…. This bold, but monochromatic wallpaper - it gets me!! I truly love it.
The mack-daddy moment of this project for me… It lives here. I can hardly write this portion of this post without getting salty and that heart clenching feeling in my chest. This is it. This is my family, my everything, and the reason I continue to do what I do everyday. I love that I was able to bring this into this unexpected space in my home because it says so much about who we are as a family. I met my husband, knew he was my forever love and we made these two incredible humans. Here we all are, in this minimalistic style that I worked my BUNS off to capture. They aren’t perfect, but they are us. And from here on, everyone who enters our home will see us in our lovely glory. I have SO much gratitude in my heart for my fabulous photographer being able to capture this in one shot.
Here’s a glance at what this drab space looked like before;
Here’s a few of my additional detail shots that I’m completely in love with. Then, I promise, I will share all of my sources with you all.
