This Life I Styled | One Room Challenge Fall '19 - Week 5
It’s the best week EVER!! It’s Week 5 of the One Room Challenge and out of them all, this week is by far my favorite. All the big projects are complete and now it’s on to the good stuff! Details people. I’m all about those special details that really make a space feel like home. I’ve been having the best time popping around to some of my favorite shops and picking up accessories and giving my body a much needed rest form all the manual labor.
If this is your first time hearing about this fun little endeavor, The One Room Challenge is a bi-annual event hosted by Calling it Home showcasing 20 featured participants and many guest participants as they renovate a single room, documenting all of it over the course of six weeks. The One Room Challenge kindly shares all of the blog entries and the finished spaces at the end of the 6 weeks.
I am sooooo proud to be looking at last weeks goal list of what I was wanting to accomplish. Here she is!
Install stair trim - NOT. EASY. But, damn. It looks so good. And SO MUCH better!
Paint stair well - This one I’ve actually decided that I think I’m going to wait on until after my family and I get back from vacation. The walls in the stair well are in rough shape and I’ve decided that I want to paint the brick above as well. I think I’m going to need to hire a professional to really make sure that it looks its best. As for now, I’m really content with the transformation and am happy to wait to get it done right.
Install new handrail - Yes!! The new railing is gorgeous! Minimal and perfect. I’m so happy with it.
Install all baseboard, crown molding and trim molding - Yep, and proud to say I did most of this myself.
Paint all trim - Yes, yes, yes! In my favorite trim color, Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore. So fresh and so clean - clean.
Install new sink and plumbing - Oh my goodness, not having a utility sink feels so good! I did have to call on my favorite handyman to help me out as the original hole that was cut for the faucet turned out to be too small, but he was a gem and hooked my up the day after I called him.
Grout the backsplash - I had NO IDEA how much grout penny tile would need. I seriously had less than 2 square feet when I ran out and had to get more the next day. But, I did it and it felt exceptionally good.
Touch up all paint necessary - So happy to be putting away the green paint for the foreseeable future. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the color, but I’m really happy to have the can sealed up and stored on the shelf.
Build decorative shelves and install - This is where I shocked myself completely. I built almost 5’ long floating shelves and installed them myself. If you’re sensing pride oozing out of me, your senses are 100% correct!
Install new light fixtures - And again, did that myself too and I’m feeling like a boss!
Painting in the late, late hours of the evening when there are no tiny people to put their fingers into it!
Grouting makes all the difference in the world!
She’s a beauty and I love her so!
