DIY | Stained Wood Easter eggs

Two weeks left until Easter and the egg designs just keep on coming! In this time of staying home and staying safe, I’ve been digging around leftover materials and cleaning out spaces that have been neglected for too long. I’m came across several small cans of leftover wood stain and thought another round of decorated wood eggs would be the perfect way to put them to good use! if you'd like to see what I did with Entry #1 of my little Easter Eggs Decorating, you can see it here.

This project didn’t come out as perfect as I was aiming for, but I’m hoping to attempt another round once my new eggs arrive now that I’ve kind of figured out the in’s and out’s of getting it right! However, I’m kind of happy that each of them isn’t perfect and look forward to mixing the two batches together.

Materials Needed

1. Wood Stain - I used leftovers, but you can always buy here, here, here, and here.

2. Rubber Gloves - Things definitely got messy.

3. Wood Eggs

4. Foam Brushes - These came in handy when I wanted to get a little more precise.

5. Polyurethane

Step 1

Then, I just got creative! I tried a lot of different things, dipping them, painting them, dunking them… All revealed really different looks depending on how the grain of the wood fell on each egg. This is where you really have to fall in love with the art of imperfection. My personal favorite way is just to use the foam brush to paint about half way up the egg and doing the same on the opposite side of the egg to give it an ombre feel. I found this to be particularly lovely with two different color stains!

Step 2

After you give them plenty of time to dry, the can says one hour, but I left them over night, apply a coat of polyurethane to protect them! This way you’ll be able to use them over and over again. I don’t personally do a lot of decorating for Easter, but I LOVE having simple little hints around my home. And these easy and simple DIY wood egg projects give me just that special touch my house and family need!
