Mission to Minimalism - Entry 4
“We move closer to what we love when we walk away from what we don’t” - The Minimalists
BEFORE & AFTER
Hi All! I can’t believe it took me almost FOUR weeks to finish up this closet. I had a few setbacks. Had to make a couple re-orders. And had to call in some help with my little people in order to actually do the work to complete the space. Here’s a quick recap on what my goals were for minimizing my linen closet.
Get rid of anything that isn’t serving our family. I’ll donate it or give it to friends or family that could put it to better use.
Group everything accordingly. Sheets, towels, cleaning supplies, and additional toiletries. Ensure that all these items are in good condition. If my towels are dingy and no longer usable, I like to donate them to our local animal shelters and veterinary clinics.
Better organize travel items as this is the best place in the house to store our suitcases and such.
Make the space more pleasant and appealing.
Have this completed in the next two weeks. - HAHAHAHA! FUNNY!
I was able to get rid of so much more than I anticipated! I was able to minimize down to only two sets of sheets for our king size bed. Two sets of sheets for queen size bed. And I only kept two sets of sheets for both of my boys beds. All of the other sheets I was able to donate to a local women’s shelter which felt great! The baskets that hold the sheets are so much lighter and it’s nice to know that I won’t be sifting through tons of sheets looking for the matching pillow cases and correct sheet with the fitted sheet. What a frigging relief.
I was able to donate SOOOOO many towels. I don’t think my husband and I ever properly merged towels when we got married, so we had a lot and weren’t really using but a handful. I donated everything we weren’t using to a local animal shelter!! Got to see a few cute furry friends too!
When I set out on this journey to start minimizing my way of living, I felt overwhelmed. I had no idea where to start because I now have two children, a husband, two dogs and a business all to manage. Who was I to decide what we all really needed as a family? But, what I’ve experienced in moving forward and being ruthless in making those decisions, everyone is happier.
BEFORE & AFTER
The project ended up costing me about $400. You can see the prior post with all the items that I used here. It would have been easy to spend far more than that, but it is just a linen closet, so I’m glad I didn’t! Time to dig into my next project. Thanks for stopping by!
