BEFORE & AFTER

Hi All! I can’t believe it took me almost FOUR weeks to finish up this closet. I had a few setbacks. Had to make a couple re-orders. And had to call in some help with my little people in order to actually do the work to complete the space. Here’s a quick recap on what my goals were for minimizing my linen closet.

  • Get rid of anything that isn’t serving our family. I’ll donate it or give it to friends or family that could put it to better use.

  • Group everything accordingly. Sheets, towels, cleaning supplies, and additional toiletries. Ensure that all these items are in good condition. If my towels are dingy and no longer usable, I like to donate them to our local animal shelters and veterinary clinics.

  • Better organize travel items as this is the best place in the house to store our suitcases and such.

  • Make the space more pleasant and appealing.

  • Have this completed in the next two weeks. - HAHAHAHA! FUNNY!

I was able to get rid of so much more than I anticipated! I was able to minimize down to only two sets of sheets for our king size bed. Two sets of sheets for queen size bed. And I only kept two sets of sheets for both of my boys beds. All of the other sheets I was able to donate to a local women’s shelter which felt great! The baskets that hold the sheets are so much lighter and it’s nice to know that I won’t be sifting through tons of sheets looking for the matching pillow cases and correct sheet with the fitted sheet. What a frigging relief.

I was able to donate SOOOOO many towels. I don’t think my husband and I ever properly merged towels when we got married, so we had a lot and weren’t really using but a handful. I donated everything we weren’t using to a local animal shelter!! Got to see a few cute furry friends too!

When I set out on this journey to start minimizing my way of living, I felt overwhelmed. I had no idea where to start because I now have two children, a husband, two dogs and a business all to manage. Who was I to decide what we all really needed as a family? But, what I’ve experienced in moving forward and being ruthless in making those decisions, everyone is happier.

The project ended up costing me about $400. You can see the prior post with all the items that I used here. It would have been easy to spend far more than that, but it is just a linen closet, so I’m glad I didn’t! Time to dig into my next project. Thanks for stopping by!
