Reading List | February 2019
For a short month, I was still able to get all my reading in! I guess it being ridiculously cold and being snowed in for over a week probably made that a little more easy to accomplish, but I’m still calling it a win! Without further ado, here’s what made it on my reading list last month.
PRESENT OVER PERFECT
Author - Shauna Niequist - Buy Here on Amazon - $14.49
I came by this book in kind of an odd way… My doctor, yes… My friggin’ doctor recommended it. After having baby number two, I went in to see her about my anxiety level and she called my out on my constant need for perfection. I’ve heard this many times in my life, but to have my doctor look my in the eye after genuinely listening to what I was experiencing and tell me it’s okay to let go a little and just be present for my kids - not perfect - really shook me. She recommended this book and told me that all my kids really need is for me to show up for them and sent me on my way. I purchased the book that day and started reading it as soon as it arrived. It really was an excellent recommendation. SOOOOO many women I know run on fumes…. Shaua Niequist shares her journey to get to a place of understanding that perfection is overrated and exhausting. Her message, love more, rest more, and play more. If you’re journey isn’t currently leading with those three items, it’s time for a course correction. Spectacular read.
NICE GIRLS JUST DON’T GET IT
Lois P. Frankel & Carol Frolinger - Buy Here on Amazon - $13.99
These ladies wrote a best selling novel called “Nice Girls Don’t Get the Corner Office,” which a friend in business told me she learned a lot from. I chose this book because I’ve been told a lot throughout life that I’m too nice and this read also covered skills that could be applied not just in my career, but in my friendships, family and life. It’s straightforward and the direct point is that as women, we’re allowed to know exactly what we want and not care if people look at us like we’re needy or greedy. It’s a good read and there’s definitely something for everyone in this book.
AN ANONYMOUS GIRL
Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen - Buy Here on Amazon - $16.76
Oh my gosh!!! I loved this book. I needed/wanted something entertaining. Something I could read before bed and it kind of bit me in the butt because it was hard for me to put it down! It’s twisty! And dark! And excellent! If you’re looking for a page turner, this is a win.
BAREFOOT
Elin Hilderbrand - Buy Here on Amazon - $12.64
Confession. When I started reading this book, I kind of hated the three main women. Not kidding. I felt like I couldn’t relate to them and that they were all kind of needy or something. However, as the book developed, I did get into a little more. The relationships are interesting and I felt like the outcome was pretty predictable, but I love Elin Hilderbrand and really wanted to make it through the whole book. It’s a good read, but in my humble opinion, I didn’t think it was anything special.
I’ve off to do some more reading in the month of March, so once again, if you have any recommendations for me, I’d love to hear them!! Thanks for stopping by!
