Mission to Minimalism - Entry 3

“good order is the foundation of all things.”

Next up… The linen closet. Now that I have a family of four, organization and a well functioning home is so critical. There’s nothing worse than only having 40 minutes worth of a nap time and having to spend 20 of it digging around to find something in the linen closet. So, I’ve decided that getting this seemingly unimportant space in my home HAS to be next on my priority list! It’s time to get the necessary items neatly stored inside and the unnecessary items moved out.

MY INSPIRATION

I love this space found in Better Homes and Gardens! Tidy, clean and everything is labeled. The wallpaper adds a special touch too!

This space by Dear Lillies Studio has great texture. It’s a great example of a good looking space that is also extremely functional. The shallow shelves are nice for making sure that everything is front and center.

This closet is done by Shades of Blue Interiors and it’s a knock out! The cedar plank lining is a beautiful touch and I can only imagine how wonderful it smells. What a brilliant way to keep linens fresh and clean.

This wallpaper in this linen closet is FABULOUS!! I love that it’s so subtle but adds a lot of fun to the closet. Who says closets have to be boring?! Everything is well organized and the large textured baskets at the bottom are perfect for containing large items that might not fit into shelves.

THE PLAN

The space isn’t horrible. It does have a small sense of organization, but it’s far from where it could and will be. I’ve categorized the items that need to be grouped together and have a small sketch of how the storage will be better laid out. My goals for updating the linen closet are below:

  • Get rid of anything that isn’t serving our family. I’ll donate it or give it to friends or family that could put it to better use.

  • Group everything accordingly. Sheets, towels, cleaning supplies, and additional toiletries. Ensure that all these items are in good condition. If my towels are dingy and no longer usable, I like to donate them to our local animal shelters and veterinary clinics.

  • Better organize travel items as this is the best place in the house to store our suitcases and such.

  • Make the space more pleasant and appealing.

  • Have this completed in the next two weeks.

Alright my friends. That’s my plan for my linen closet makeover. I’m hoping that over the next two weeks, I’ll be able to really take a hard look at all that’s in there and truly evaluate if it’s adding to or hindering my life or not. Hopefully, in two weeks, I’ll be sharing a brilliant before and after with you all!

Thanks for stopping by!
