One Room Challenge | Week 7 - That's a Wrap... Almost

ORC W7 Image 1.JPG

When I found out that this challenge was going to offer an additional two weeks of time to get the project done, I ignorantly thought I would be finished within the six weeks and be bored for two… Ha! I’m sitting here laughing at my ignorant self as I sweat running around like a chicken trying to figure out which way is up and what goes where. This Spring One Room Challenge has come up a whole handful of ups and downs. Starts and stops. I’ve had to make a lot of compromises and had to attain any entirely new level of patience that I didn’t even know I was capable of. I’m sure though that this time next week, I’ll fully honor that this is one of those projects that I will remember for the rest of my life and be proud of what I actually was able to make happen in a chapter of life that just HAS been really uncomfortable.

Week One | Week Two | Week Three | Week Four | Week Five/Six

If you’re not familiar with what the One Room Challenge is, let me fill you in real quick. Each season, (Fall and Spring), twenty featured designers are selected to share their talents with all of those who love design and a serious Before & After. Be sure to check in on those folks right here and be ready to be inspired! In addition, other lovers of design, DIYers, Designers and everyone in between are invited to participate as Guest Participants to show off their projects on the hosts site as well. You can see all of the other spectacular talent here.

Hi, I'm Heather-Scherie.JPG

Welcome!

If you’re new here, Hi! I’m Heather-Scherie. I’ve been a professional Interior Designer for what feels like eons now. I’m the owner of Whitestone Design Group based in the Greater Seattle Area. I’m a lover of DIY’s, all things design, and life in general. I have two delectable little boys, ages one and three, and am the wife to my handsome hubs that embraces all my needs to turn everything into a project!

I think the part of this last week that I’m finding to be the hardest is acceptance…. I have to accept that some aspects of this project just aren’t going to happen by the due date and that has to be okay. A lot of the accessories and items that I’ve ordered are starting to come in, but a lot of them are looking like they aren’t going to make it by shoot day. In the Seattle area, most shops that I generally use for accessory and detail shopping still aren’t open, so running out to find those perfect, last pieces isn’t going to happen. It’s likely that the nightstands that I had to source pretty late in the game won’t be finished on time. And that’s okay. Everything will come together eventually and the space will be how I envisioned it, I’ll just have to wait it out this time!

My favorite photographer won't be able to shoot the space on time for me this go around either. I didn’t really have my heart set on it this time with the COVID conditions still being what they are here, but I’ll be excited to have her out once it’s all finished anyway. Until then, you’ll all just have to deal with my subpar photography. I’m not terrible, but I have nothing on her professional talent!!

I’ll be spending these last few days moving things around to get things “shoot ready.” Despite the adjustments, I’m still overjoyed with the massive change this bedroom has undergone. It feels like a completely different space. My biggest goals were to create a lot more light and to have the space feel like a place intended for a peaceful retreat. And my friends, I did it. Even in a slightly unfinished state, it really does feel so restful and serene, which will help me keep my eye on the prize in the coming weeks.
